Four students who received excellent fast-track Masters in Mechanical Engineering (MTM) Undip scholarships conducted a research collaboration with Universiteit Twente Netherlands. The four students are Fanni Fattah, Fadely Paddiyatu, Dian Indra Prasetyo and Muhammad Khafidh. They were accompanied by an UNDIP MTM teaching staff, Dr. Jamari who is the thesis supervisor for the students.

The research itself was conducted at the University of Twente’s Laboratory for Surface Technology and Tribology (LSTT), which is the best laboratory in Europe in the field of Tribology. This activity was carried out as a follow-up to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that had been made between UNDIP and Universiteit Twente. This activity took place from 18 April to 18 June 2013.

There are four research topics they are working on at Twente. The four topics are maintenance based tribology, artificial hip-joint test equipment design, oil lubricant sensoring, and lubricated contact modeling in FEM. In working on their thesis at Twente, they will be guided by prof.dr.ir. D.J. Schipper, prof.dr.ir. E. van der Heide, prof.dr.ir. P.M. Lugt and dr.ir. R. Bosman. In addition to conducting research, they also use this opportunity to obtain innovations, information, various international perspectives, and application of solutions to actual engineering problems in the field of Tribology.

Prof. Schipper explained that all staff at LSTT were very enthusiastic in helping students to complete their research. “If you have difficulties, don’t hesitate to ask questions and discuss with everyone in this lab,” he explained after giving a lecture on current issues in tribology.

According to Dr. Jamari’s agenda for the collaboration currently underway is the development of a doctoral program with a joint mentoring model between Prof.Schipper (University of Twente) and Dr. Jamari (Diponegoro University). The University of Twente is also ready to support the opening of the Undip Mechanical Engineering Doctoral Program which is currently being prepared. All of these activities are collaborations in the fields of education and research, so it is hoped that this activity can be a driving force for UNDIP’s efforts towards World Class University (WCU) and Research University. “It is possible that in the future, this research collaboration will open up opportunities for UNDIP to be able to hold a double degree program with Twente University,” added Dr. Jamari.Ir (quoted from undip.ac.id)
